For some reason Red Star Tavern does not get the buzz it deserves. It is an excellent restaurant right in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon. It has been in Portland at least 7 years. When searching for Portland’s top restaurants it rarely if ever shows up, but it should!
Red Star Tavern has a beautiful bar and offer happy hour from 4-6 PM and again from 10-12. During happy hour they have specials on food and drinks.
I have eaten here twice and both times I thought it was great. These pictures are from our most recent meal here.
We started our meal by sharing some mussels and a salad. Specifically the $12 Penn Cove Mussels: made witth IPA, aji amarillo chiles, mustard cream, garlic, crostini and the $8 Simple Greens with shaved fennel, herbs, radish, citrus vinaigrette.
For my main course I have the $24 Bourbon Glazed Pork Chop with bacon braised greens, buttermilk ranch puree, ridgemont reserve. My pork chop was amazing, by far one of the best meals I have had in Portland. The bacon they used with it was candied or something. Everything is better with bacon.
I actually find myself talking about this pork chop at random times with people, because it’s that good. No joke.
I can not remember what my husband had and could not figure it out by looking at their menu online either. Whatever it was I recall he like it and it looks pretty tasty in the picture I took.
They will validate parking for two hours at the Hotel Monaco Portland, adjacent to the restaurant.
