Ocho is a Cuban Tex-Mex restaurant on the San Antonio river walk inside Hotel Havana. And so far it is the best meal I have ever had in San Antonio and I’ve had lots of meals I love in San Antonio.
Ocho is not located on the main part of the river walk, but is within walking distance from the main area. Plus, they have ivy all over the walls, making it a great place to take a photo. We were staying at the Omni La Mansion and it was an easy walk from there.
I ask the waiter how they came up with the name. She said that the owner saw two matching signs at a garage sale that said Ocho. The owner bought them and named the restaurant Ocho. (I’m not kidding.)
We kicked off our meal with coffee and cocktails. To be honest, it is the food that is the stand out here, not the cocktails. They weren’t bad, but they were not great either. We tried mimosas, mojitos, and the Santiago Painkiller.
We kicked off our meal with a couple of appetizers. The Havana papas braves were superb.
TOSTONES: Twice Fried Plantains served with Roasted Tomato Garlic Aioli
HAVANA PAPAS BRAVAS: Harissa Aioli, Roasted Poblano, Caramelized Onion, Queso Fresco
I got dessert for my main course the BANANA BREAD FRENCH TOAST with vanilla ice cream, cajeta, and candied pecans. It was so good I almost started crying. I am not really a crier, but dang this was so good. Sadly, I could not finish it all.
