Altabira City Tavern

Altabira City Tavern

A few weeks ago I was able to attend the media dinner at Altabira City Tavern in NE Portland, Oregon. It was their 2 year anniversary party and they had a variety of their food out for tasting. Somehow I had never been here, so I was shocked when I walked out to their large patio and saw the views of Portland and ate their awesome food. Altabira easily has one of the best patios in Portland. The patio is 1st come 1st served basis.

Altabira Cocktails

They kicked off the party with cocktails. The first one I tried was the Cherry Blossom made with Union gin, Luxardo maraschino, Grand Marnier, Amarena Cherry, and lemon. It was great, but I forgot to snap a picture of it. The next cocktail I tried was the Desert Ride a margarita made with Altos Reposed, New Deal ginger liqueur, Ancho Reyes liqueur, lime juice, blackberry, and honey. This is the cocktail shown above. Almost everyone tried one and they all loved it.

Altabira Food

As far as the food went it was all really good. The dessert was outstanding and one of the best desserts I have had in Portland. It was a  Strawberry Almond Upside Down Cake with Toasted Coconut Ice Cream.Altabira City Tavern

The next best thing I tried was the shrimp and grits. I rarely have grits in Portland and to be honest I was surprised how good this was. I love Cajun food and this was just as good as some of the food I have had in New Orleans.

Another standout food item was the oven roasted sugar snap peas. They were served warm with mint, feta cheese, and a garlic lime vinaigrette.

If the kids had been with me the spicy Asian chicken wings would have been there favorite food item. They love chicken wings and these were excellent.

Oddly enough one of the items we had was a corn dog, but this was no ordinary hot dog since it is made with Kobe beef. During happy hour you can get this corn dog for $5.

The pretzel was okay, it’s just a regular pretzel.

The sliders they served were also quite tasty. We had the Catalan blended burger sliders with Shitake mushrooms, grilled onions, chimichurri aioli and Romesco sauce. I pretty much like anything with chimichurrie on it.

Happy hour is everyday from 4 – 6 PM with $4 beers, $7 cocktails, $5 well drinks and $5 wines.
