Accanto an Italian Restaurant in Portland, Oregon
Accanto is a down to earth Italian restaurant in South East Portland, Oregon. They make everything fresh, using local in season ingredients. It happens to be one of my favorite places to eat around Portland.
Update: After serving the Belmont community for 10 years, I am sad to report that Accanto has closed its doors.
I do not recall the name of this cocktail shown in the first photo, but still had to share because of the picture because of the overall experience. I looked through the cocktail menu and nothing seemed appealing to me. I told the waiter this and in turn he asks a few questions, then said he knew something I would like. He was right, it was great.
The kitchen is completely open so if you wish you can sit and watch them cook if you like.
I found it funny that when the cooks had their backs turned away from the customers their t-shirts were essentially a sign directing you to the bathroom.
The menu features several reasonably priced tapas, as well as soups and salads. During happy hour the prices are even cheaper.
The pasta was excellent. My friend tried one kind of pasta while I tried the other. Both were wonderful even though they were completely different.
One of the best desserts I have had in Portland was actually this Strawberry Panna Cotta. So, if they happen to be serving some when you visit be sure and try it. I enjoyed it so much that I usually call to see if is is being served before I decide whether or not to have dinner there. I know that’s ridiculous, but I have a sweet tooth.
