Already dreaming of summer? Longing to enjoy your swimming pool some more? Jumping in the refreshing water when it’s hot, laying out on the perfect float in the sun, playing and actually having fun with your kids for hours, having that annual, epic pool party…. I could go on and on. I love having a swimming pool in our backyard. But what I don’t love? Spending significant amounts of time every summer trying to keep it clean! I know there has got to be better ways to keep it sparkling and decided to finally give an automatic pool cleaner a try! I’m so glad I did!
Aiper Seagull 600 Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner
I recently received the Aiper Seagull 600 Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner and am going to share the pros and cons of this little pool robot! There are a lot of robotic pool cleaners on the market. It’s overwhelming to choose between brands and models, but it’s so important to get the right machine for your specific pool needs if you want to stop spending so much time cleaning your pool and prefer more time to actually enjoy it.
First, I’d like to mention that I live in an area with a lot of trees. Sure, they look beautiful all summer and fall, but lots of trees also mean my pool catches a lot of leaves and debris. Like…. A LOT. To the point that we can’t possibly keep up when the leaves start falling. So much so that I fantasize about getting a chainsaw to try my hand at logging but, unfortunately, becoming a lumberjack likely isn’t in my future.
The solution? Glad you asked! Automatic pool cleaning robots are the only solution I can think of in order to keep my sanity, of course! As you can imagine, I was beyond thrilled when the Aiper Seagull 600 Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner showed up on my doorstep!
This little robotic pool cleaner is cordless, lightweight, and easy to use! It also comes with a charger and a hook to retrieve the robot from the bottom of the pool.
Charging time is around 4 hours with a run time of 50 minutes. That may not seem very long but this little machine hauls and can clean the entire bottom of your pool in one run time (your mileage may vary, depending on pool size).
The model we received, the Seagull 600, is best to be used with above-ground pools. That’s because above-ground pools usually only have one level of surface to clean. This particular model isn’t meant to go up and down the slopes at the bottom of an in-ground pool. If you so happen to have a sloped, in-ground pool check out the model Seagull 1000 Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner, the bigger of the cordless pool cleaners that have got a little more power to navigate up slopes and floor drains. We’ve also revied the Aiper Seagull Pro Robotic Pool Cleaner.
As I said, we received the Seagull 600, and even though we have a very sloped in-ground pool, I used it anyway. I know it’s not technically meant for in-ground sloped pools, but I don’t care. I was desperate to try anything to avoid daily vacuuming and losing hours of my life scooping out thousands of leaves when they begin to fall in late summer.
So we opened up the Aiper Seagull 600 Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner, put it together immediately, and got it charged. Assembly was pretty simple and charging was straightforward and easy to figure out as well.
We let it charge overnight and the next day I ran down the stairs like it was Christmas morning to try the Seagull 600 out immediately! Would it be what I’d been hoping and dreaming for?! Sloped bottom and all?
The answer to that is yes! But also kind of no….. Allow me to explain. I’ll start with the good.
This little robot is fast! We just turned it on, dropped it in, and off it went! It was great at picking up debris and even quite a bit of leaves. It’s powerful and works as advertised! It stayed in the shallow end for a while and then made its way down to the deeper end of the pool. Cleaning it out was also a breeze! I couldn’t believe how much debris and foliage it picked up! I cleaned it out with my sprayer hose, let it dry, and then popped it right back on the charger. It doesn’t get much simpler than that in my opinion!
Here’s the downside, and really it’s not the Seagull 600’s fault! As I mentioned above, this model isn’t made for sloped surfaces and the pool drains at the bottom of the deep end. While it does do a lot of picking up around that area, it struggles around the floor drain which is where the leaves like to accumulate. So, instead of being able to suck them up, it’s just sort of sent them floating back up into the water… I was able to scoop them out faster than normal though. *I want to point out that this was not the case on the typical flat surfaces of our pool. It’s picked the leaves up just fine on flat surfaces.*
The other downside is that it doesn’t have enough power to go up and down our very steep sloped pool. Is that really a downside though??? I don’t think it’s actually fair to say that it is…. This model was made specifically for flat surfaces but I put it on a sloped surface. I will say it was almost powerful enough to go up and down the slope, just not quite powerful enough. So while not really a downside with the Seagull 600, I felt the need to add that it’s not ideal for in-ground sloped pools just in case someone who reads this is tempted to buy this model instead of the one recommended for sloped in-ground pools to save some money. Pick up model, Seagull 1000 Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner, which is best for in-ground, sloped pools!
Ok, moving on! My verdict is that this is a powerful, useful machine and did a wonderful job on my difficult, dirty pool so I would give it 5 stars for an above-ground or flat-surfaced pool! And did I mention it’s CORDLESS! That’s a real game-changer here, people. We love it so much, we’re thinking about ordering the Seagull 1000 because we know it would work even better on our kind of pool and gifting the Seagull 600 to our neighbors with an above-ground pool!
All in all, I’d say Aiper is a great brand and the Seagull 600 is pretty fantastic. Their products are of great quality and work really well. If you have an above-ground pool or even an in-ground pool with a flat surface or shallow, easy slope the Aiper Seagull 600 Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner be perfect for your pool!
