Animal Kingdom

Tree of Life at the Animal KingdomI went to the Animal Kingdom for the very first time last August when we brought our kids to Disney World for the first time. I didn’t know what to expect. I had not heard a lot about the Animal Kingdom and in fact I had not even bothered to go there on previous trips. So, needless to say that when we finally did go, I was blown away and cannot believe I didn’t visit sooner. I highly recommend making this part of your trip. This is a newer part of Disney so it has some really amazing rides. Expedition Everest is an awesome roller coaster, one of the best at Disney World! Plus, it is just really well done and enjoyable to look at. There are so many little details. Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom tips:

  • Fast passes and rider switch cards are available on seven of the rides.
  • It is often much quicker to meet the characters at this park. I am not sure why, but every time we have tried it has been quite quick. This is the best place to meet Tiger, Pooh, and Eeyore because the line is always short!

We started our day out by walking towards Dinoland. On our way we stopped to see the It’s Tough to be a Bug show. It was a good 3-D show with some fun surprises.

I have to stop and mention two other shows that are at this park. Nemo and Lion King. Both are very good and definitely worth seeing. These are not a movie like It’s tough to be a Bug, but live shows with dancing and singing. If you only have time for one go see the Lion King. Your kid might have a chance to be in the Lion King if you sit in front towards an aisle.

Then we were on the dinosaur ride. The name of it escapes me at the moment, but it is one of the best rides I have ever been on. It will scare you! Here is a picture of us going back in time to the age of the dinosaurs!

The only other big ride in Dinoland is the Primo Whirl. This is a good ride and has a height requirement on it. It was a little too rough for me and after a few trips here I now skip this ride, because I don’t like getting banged around that much! This is one of the only rides I skip out of all four parks.

You cannot hang out in Dinoland without making some time for the Boneyard. This is a massive playground. There is an area where you can dig for bones, slides, tunnels, climbing and more! This is a good way for parents to take a break while kids continue to play. The Boneyard playground at the Animal Kingdom

Be sure to go on the Kilimanjaro Safari and see all of the animals, including elephants, zebras, and more. The animals roam around so the safari is never the same twice. You might even get lucky and see one of the newborn animals. Last time we were there we saw the new giraffes.

There is a walk you can go on, the Maharajah Jungle Trek and look at animals from Southweast Asia like monkeys, tigers and more.

The Animal Kingdom also has its own paradeMickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade. It is very unique and different then the ones in the other parks. The parade is usually at 3 PM every day.

This is a picture from the bridge overlooking the Kali River rapid ride. Beware you can get totally soaked on this ride! In the middle is a storage space where you can place items you do not want to get wet. After getting soaked on here a few too many times we no longer ride the rapids.

If you do not want to ride the Kali River Rapids, go check out the monkeys instead. They are near by playing on this structure.Monkeys at the Animal Kingdom

New Editions at the Animal Kingdom

They’ve added so much to the Animal Kingdom it is amazing. They’ve added a night time shows including the The River of Lights with music, lights, and water features and the Tree of Life Awakens. It’s definitely staying late to catch the shows or even coming back to the park to see. And I must say, riding Expedition Everest at night is a whole new experience.

The Tree of Life Awakens

The Tree of Life Awakes is a twice nightly show that is projected onto the tree.

Pandora

Pandora the World of Avatar added two new rides to the Animal Kingdom, plus an entire new section of the park. This area is a must see during the day and at night. It looks completely different during the day.

Have you been to the Animal Kingdom? What is your favorite thing about it?
