Have you seen a live show lately that completely blew you away? Tonight my kids and I went to see the new show Cirque Du Soleil on ice, Crystal and it was PHENOMENAL! I think it’s the best live show we’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen anything else like this.
Cirque du Soleil’s CRYSTAL
Crystal is an extremely unique production pushes boundaries of performance by combining stunning skating and acrobatic feats that defy the imagination. They took so many of the best pieces of a Cirque Du Soleil show and put them on ice. To be honest, I went into the show with low expectations, because how are they going to do all those things you expect them to do on ice. Needless to say we were blown away to see jugglers, ice skaters, acrobats, strength acts, body contortion and more.
Right away, while waiting for the show to start you begin to be brought into the experience as an “ice clown” walks around throwing snowballs into the audience. Before the show officially begins, the audience is having a snowball fight with part of the cast while the musicians play and ice skaters warm up.
Later in the show you will discover that the ice clown can tap dance, juggle, ice skate, and more.
Cirque Du Soleil on Ice Take’s Their Acts to a Whole New Level
I was not expecting an elaborate light show on the ice, but that’s exactly what we got. They were doing things on the ice while skaters performed that were incredible. I love the way they used light effects throughout.
Ballroom Scene – Falling in Love
The part that moved me the most during the performance was the ballroom science. Crystal transforms the park into an elegant ballroom as her suitor appears from above and whisks her off on straps. The couple performs a spellbinding aerial straps/skating pas de deux that blurs the boundaries between ice and sky. I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything like this before.
My kid’s were super impressed with the pole scene, this is a first at Cirque du Soleil. My oldest son is a level 10 gymnasts so we know how incredibly hard some of these stunts are. This swinging poles act, combines synchro pole work, pole-to-pole jumps, and impressive Russian-swing-style dismounts.
As the show progressed the acts were so good I kept thinking this must be the last act, but then the show would continue with another great act.
