It’s still strange to think that we’re currently living in a climate where some travel is restricted. When you’re someone that loves to travel and explore, you may like to spend most of your free time out and about. So when that freedom is curtailed a little bit, it can be strange and somewhat torturous.
Depending on where you live or how you’ve been feeling recently, you may find that travel isn’t all that different for you. But for some, it’s been limited. And that can mean that all you want to be able to do is get out and about and see the world again. When traveling and seeing all corners of the world is one of your major life goals, this is only natural. But what can you do?
Well, one thing you can definitely do is to think about planning your next trip! This not only gives you something to look forward to and will ease you back into travel, but it can be exciting to do too. I know because I plan several trips a week! Let’s take a look at how you’re going to plan your next trip.
Choose A Location
When you’re not sure where to start with the planning process, it’s often a good idea to start with the location. Where do you want to go? Can you afford to visit the destination? Beach versus a mountain getaway? Historical sightseeing versus tasting exotic foods? Maybe a country that has all of these.
Think about where’s top of your list and do some research if it will help you to decide on a spot. We’ve got lots of recommendations for vacation locations:

Think About Accommodation
Then you’ll want to take a look into where you want to stay. It’s always a good idea to think about where you want to stay. So research hotels and accommodations and decide on something that will suit your needs for the trip. You might also want to sort any transport at this stage too. Boutique hotels can offer
Think About What You Want To Do

Skimboarding at Shell Island
From here, you’re then also going to want to spend some time thinking about the things you want to do while you’re there. And this can be the super fun part! You get to read more about the different sights and attractions and things to do in your chosen destination. It often makes you feel really excited about visiting the spot and getting to explore a little bit more. You don’t have to plan everything, but it can make the trip feel more organized if you get a few things booked.
Fun things to do almost any where in the world include:
- Food tours
- Adventure activities like zip lining/rappeling or skiing
- Hop on hop off bus tours or boat tours
- Cooking classes
- Off roading or go carting
- Hiking
- See a show
I highly recommend letting each of your kids pick one activity if they are going with you. You might be surprised what they pick, it’s likely something you wouldn’t have!

Take Care of the Paperwork
You will want to take care of any paperwork that you need sorted. There could be more due to Covid depending on where you are headed. So be sure that you’ve got any certificates and insurance that you need to have in place. For example, we had to have a certain type of travel insurance to get into Costa Rica. Be sure to check off any visas you might need and check to see if there are passport restrictions. Finally, be sure to check your reservations nearer the time, just to be sure everything is okay.
It’s strange not to travel regularly or not see all of the world as much as you’d like to. But, you have to admit that, even starting to plan the process of traveling again (no matter how far away you’ve booked it for) can be fun and new and exciting!
