Omni La Mansion Del Rio on the San Antonio River Walk
Omni La Mansion Del Rio is the perfect hotel in San Antonio for those wanting to stay right on the river walk. This historic hotel was built in 1852 and was St. Mary’s boy’s college before it was turned into a hotel in 1968. It’s been an Omni property since 2006. Fun Fact: They have the only free-standing staircase in San Antonio.
My favorite part of this hotel is the location. This hotel is close to essentially everything on the riverwalk and the Alamo. So, you have loads of restaurants and shopping within just a short walk down the river. It’s a short drive to the Pearl area and downtown.
My room had a balcony overlooking the river walk. Each morning I sat out there to people watch and enjoy my cup of coffee. There is a Keurig coffee maker in the room and they supplied me with lots of coffee! Living in Portland has given me quite the coffee addiction. There is also a nice mini bar aka refreshment center. One of my favorite things in the refreshment center were Pez Dispensers. Had my kids been with me they would have loved these! I noticed that the minibar featured lots of Texas things like Dr. Pepper, Big Red, and Texas brittle.
During my stay there happened to be a Mardi Gras boat parade down the river. Instead of standing around like everyone else, we went up to our room and watched from the balcony. (There were chairs, but instead, we sat on the floor. I don’t know why.)
Swimming Pool
My second favorite thing about this hotel was the saltwater swimming pool. I sat out here one day and loved getting some sun! I suggest not going out to the pool until later in the day, sometime after 12:00 PM. If you go any earlier, there will probably not be any sun hitting the area yet.
At night there are fire pits lit up that are nice to sit around with a cocktail. If you do not want to sit outside to drink you can stay inside. This hotel property has an onsite bar.
Hotel Bar – El Colegio
The hotel bar, El Colegio was originally the Dean’s office and still has the original fireplace. The menus are library books and they offer a happy hour from 3 – 7 PM. I found this to be the perfect place to kill some time while my friends were still busy getting ready. Skip the house margaritas, they are way too salty. Small bites are available like marinated, spiced olives, rosemary & sea salt Marcona almonds, cheeseburgers, spicy chicken wings, and chipotle lime rock shrimp tacos. My friend had the mac and cheese and raved about it.
Deluxe Two Bed Room
My room was nice. It was a room with two beds, a balcony, and a river walk view. There were two robes in the closet, which is always a nice amenity. The nightstand in between the beds had outlets running along the side of it. I loved that feature. I was able to plug-in everything! The bathroom had a bathtub.
Presidential Suite
Sadly the Presidential Suite was not my room, but they let me tour it. Here are photos of the 1900 sqft room! As you can see it’s beautiful.
During my stay here I did a Facebook Live video. You can see the full tour of the Presidential suite towards the end of the video!
Awesome Staff
Last but not least I have to mention the staff. I encountered a lot of the staff during my visit for some reason and every single person I encountered was kind, helpful, and friendly.
