Deep blue waters gently lap soft white sands of this seductive paradise where the desert meets the sea. The activities and attractions in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, also known as Rocky Point are equally enjoyed by travelers that come alone, in a group, as a family or as a couple. Whether shopping and dining, exploring and adventuring, or just relaxing, Puerto Penasco has the flavor you desire.
Despite Rocky Points’ constant construction of new resorts and condos being erected to meet its growing popularity, the mood of the locals in this old fishing town is laid back. Amidst state of the art buildings are open air stands that sell t-shirts, jewelry, pottery, art and other novelties. You will also find upscale boutiques featuring fine art, hand crafted collectables, clothing and elegant furnishings.

Incredible Food
During a dining experience in Puerto Penasco expect to find numerous seafood selections, mainly variations of prepared shrimp dishes. You can also find quaint Mexican style cantinas that serve authentic dishes. The heat factor is usually mild, but if you like, you can request super spicy sauces on the side. For families with young children there are eating establishments that are so Americanized that they actually import their goods. If drinkable water is a concern, most eateries serve filtered or bottled water.
Experience Something New
If you enjoy exploring then visit CEDO museum of natural history for an educational outdoor hike in the desert. CEDO is marked by an exhibit of a fifty foot fin whale skeleton. Be led or venture out on your own through the most unusual and rugged terrain in North America. Pinacate Biosphere is a six hundred mile reserve created by volcanic activity. This mass of over four hundred cinder cones and nine enormous craters is home to three hundred twenty five different animal species and five hundred sixty plant species. The most frequented crater is El Elegante. Although it takes about three hours to hike and you need to lug a heavy water supply, the view is breathtaking and offers great photo opportunities!

Puerto Pensco Tips
There are a few things to know before planning your trip. The months of June through August are unbearably hot and humid. Most avoid the month of March unless you are a college student celebrating Spring Break. The best months to visit are between May and October. Puerto Penasco is considered a “free zone” which means a passport is unnecessary, but Mexico auto insurance is mandatory if you are driving. It is not advised to attempt to return home on Sunday due to the grueling pace of an immigration inspection line. Keeping these things in mind, you are sure to have a great time during your adventure at Puerto Penasco.
