I had a surprisingly wonderful dinner the other night in Vancouver, Washington at a pizza place. I never go to Vancouver and I rarely eat at a pizza joint, but they invited me in and it sounded like it was going to be an atypical experience. So, off Eden and I went to try out Rally Pizza.

Rally Pizza

As soon as we walked into Rally Pizza I knew we were in for a treat. This is definitely not your average pizza place. Instead, it is a trendy restaurant with a variety of food options that have nothing to do with pizza.

We were there to taste the special one day menu they were having to celebrate the Persian New Year. We kicked off our meal with the Mezze Platter. On the platter was a warm sesame flatbread, a fresh herb omelette served cold, whipped feta, eggplant dip, and spring greens. We loved both the whipped feta dip and the eggplant dip. Having never had whipped feta dip I was unsure exactly what to expect, but it was awesome. The bread was also great, if you are a bread person, go here!

For our main courses we had the lamb pizza and the saffron, lemon chicken with jeweled rice. The lamb pizza had house made lamb sausage, Black Sheep Creamery’s fresh sheep’s milk cheese, green garlic, and arugula. Now all four ingredients are things I have never had on a pizza, but I gotta say this was an awesome pizza. I would order it again. The chicken was outstanding. It was 1/2 a game hen and basmati rice with barberries, saffron, orange peel, dried cherries, pistachios, and almonds, served with yogurt and mint sauce. I am not going to lie, the first bite was a little odd. I was unsure what I thought, but after a few more bites, I was really digging this dish. If your child is a picky eater this chicken dish will be too adventurous for them, but if you are a foodie you will love it.

We polished off our dinner with a walnut baklava sundae. It is a mainly vanilla ice cream with a little bit of baklava, and topped with toasted pistachios, whip cream, and orange blossom honey syrup. It was unbelievably good.

I also tried one of their cocktails while we were here. I had the Equinox made with pomegranate liqueur, dry gin, ginger liqueur, grape juice, and lime juice. It was a good drink, but too strong for me. If you like a sour strong drink, I highly recommend it.
