Red Star Tavern is an awesome place to eat in downtown Portland, Oregon!
Red Star Tavern a Rustic American Tavern
For some reason Red Star Tavern does not get the buzz it deserves. It is an excellent restaurant right in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon. It has been in Portland at least 7 years. When searching for Portland’s top restaurants it rarely, if ever shows up, but it should!
Red Star Tavern has a beautiful bar and offer happy hour from 4-6 PM and again from 10-12. During happy hour they have specials on food and drinks.
I have eaten here four times and every single time thought it was great. These pictures are from several different meals here.
We started our meal by sharing some mussels and a salad. Specifically the $12 Penn Cove Mussels: made with IPA, aji Amarillo chiles, mustard cream, garlic, crostini and the $8 Simple Greens with shaved fennel, herbs, radish, citrus vinaigrette.
For my main course I have the $24 Bourbon Glazed Pork Chop with bacon braised greens, buttermilk ranch puree, Ridgemont reserve. My pork chop was amazing, by far one of the best meals I have had in Portland. The bacon they used with it was candied or something. Everything is better with bacon.
I actually find myself talking about this pork chop at random times with people, because it’s that good. No joke. I have been back to eat here multiple times and almost always get the pork chop, it’s never the same, but it’s always excellent.
I can not remember what my ex-husband had and could not figure it out by looking at their menu online either. Whatever it was, I recall he like it and it looks pretty tasty in the picture I took.
They will validate parking for two hours at the Hotel Monaco Portland, adjacent to the restaurant.
You literally cannot go wrong ordering the pasta at Red Star Tavern. The head chef is a pasta specialist.
Warm sipping chocolate topped with housemade marshmallows. This creamy combination will knock your socks off.
