Our family loved our most recent getaway to downtown Portland, Oregon. That’s right, technically we didn’t leave town, but boy it sure felt like we did.

We went and stayed at the RiverPlace Hotel by Kimpton for the weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. I know what you are wondering, what was so great about it. Well, for starters, we stayed in the Grand Suite and lets just say it totally lived up to its name. In fact, my kids thought it was the nicest hotel room they’ve ever stayed in. And, they may be just kids but they’ve stayed in a lot of hotel rooms. I’ve actually been racking my brain ever since they said this trying to think of somewhere else we’ve stayed that was nicer and I think the kids might be right.

The Grand Suite was huge, 1100 square feet! How nice it is to stay in a hotel with three kids and not feel like we are right on top of each other. Instead, it was the opposite, I could have hid myself away in the master suite and just left my children to do whatever they liked out in the living room and dining room. (Don’t worry, I didn’t do that. Well, okay, I did a little bit of this. I deserve some me time.)

Kids’s tents – RiverPlace offers complimentary tents that they will set up for your kids in your room.  The tents are best for children three to eight and are delivered with a floor cushion, teddy bear sleeping bag and campfire night light. Not only that, but they will bring you the fixings for hot chocolate to go along with it.

The master suite is fabulous with an oversized walk in closet and a gigantic bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub, separate shower and double sinks. (There’s another half bath just off of the living room.) The master suite has good views of the river as well.RiverPlace hotel

Now, if you can believe it or not, things got even better.

Wine Hour

Everyday at 5 pm RiverPlace hosts a wine hour with complimentary wine for adults and hot cocoa for kids. They also have freshly baked cookies!Riverplace wine hour

Kimpton’s Bedtime Butler

On the off chance you didn’t get enough to eat or drink you will pleased to know that a bedtime butler is likely to show up at your door at some point in the evening with a tray full of treats. The night we stayed they had candy, popcorn, and hot chocolate complete with schnapps for the parents. They also had some books you could borrow if your child wants a bedtime story.

On-site restaurant

RiverPlace has a restaurant in the hotel that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Three Degrees Restaurant: The on-site restaurant is nothing short of fabulous. The restaurant has amazing views and a cheap kid-friendly happy hour. Here are some photos of our happy hour food: fried pickles, french fries, and the cocktail of the day for $5. The daily cocktail was called Heaven and it was amazing. Be sure to ask if they are making it when you go in.

Every day during happy hour they offer a food item of the day. On Sundays it’s tacos!

Restaurant update: Three Degrees closed and is now reopened has Kingtide Shell and Fish. It’s an excellent seafood restaurant that is sure to please any seafood lover! Their lobster rolls are the best I’ve ever had.
