The Screen Door is one of the best places for breakfast or dinner in Portland, Oregon. Check out photos of their massive portions of delicious food.
Screen Door Portland
The Screen Door is one of the most popular restaurants in Portland serving up Southern cuisine and Soul Food. After eating here once it is easy to see why it’s one of the most popular restaurants in the Pacific Northwest. To say that after just one visit I became a die hard Screen Door fan would be an understatement.
Portland Brunch Spot
My first visit here was for a mommy daughter breakfast with Eden. (The boys refused to come with us.) However, there was a long wait, so we ended up having brunch instead. Weekend brunch is available Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wait times can get up to 2 hours. Each time I have visited we’ve waited at least an hour. One time the wait time was so outrageous we ended up walking around and finding somewhere else to eat. This is how we found HunnyMilk, another good brunch restaurant in Portland.
We over indulged to say the least. Just look at the ridiculous amounts of food we ate! Sorry the photos are dark, the restaurant was dark inside both times I visited, which makes capturing good food photos almost impossible.
We kicked off our delightful meal with $4 hot chocolate for Eden and a $7.50 Burnside Brandy Milk Punch made with milk, brandy, grated nutmeg & a sugared rim for me. Both are pictured above. Mine was good, but next time I would go with the hot chocolate or maybe the Spicy Creole Bloody, I heard it’s one of the best bloody Mary’s in Portland.
Next we split the coffee cake that came with homemade whip cream. It was excellent and you cannot tell from the below photo, but it was a large portion. I highly recommend getting a slice of coffee cake for the table to split.
My main meal was the bananas foster french toast. It was unbelievably good. Again the portion was massive. I was unable to finish it and basically had enough left for breakfast the next day!
Eden went with the fried chicken breakfast sandwich. Needless to say she couldn’t finish it! I doubt most adults would be able to finish it off.
Incredible Dinners
Breakfast was so good that shortly after dining here, I decided to return for dinner. They are well known for their fried chicken dinner and I think you can see why from the photo. That is only one portion. I am pretty sure I could have split this with two of my friends!
The collard greens were good too, which can be hard to find in Portland. I was with 8 or 9 other gals for dinner and if I recall correctly, none of them had ever had collard greens. How is this even possible?
Underneath the chicken is mashed potatoes, but there is so much chicken you basically cannot see them!
The hamburgers are gigantic, the BBQ plate is incredible and their famous mac and cheese is phenomenal!
I still have not had a chance to try their famous chicken and waffles, so I will just have to go back for research sake!

Line Tips: Do not get in the line! A lot of people line up to be seated, do not get in the line, this serves no purpose. You need to walk in and have them put your name on the list.
Parking Tips: There is no parking lot. You will have to find somewhere parking in the area, which at times can be extremely difficult.
