During the holidays, it’s important to remember all the military members stationed across the world, spending the holidays alone, away from their families. There are many different ways you can “remember” military members.
Send a Care Package
If you know of someone in the military and is deployed put together a care package for them. Things you can include in a care package are:
- Hard candy
- Magazines
- Gum
- Foot powder/Baby Powder
- Hand/Foot Warmers
- Q-Tips (small packs only)
- Mini flashlight
- Batteries (AA and AAA)
- Lip balm/Chapstick
- Wipes or individual moist towelette packets
- Mini sewing kits
- Seasonal items
If you do not know someone who is deployed you can donate money to an organization like Operation Gratitude. This organization will use your money to send a care package to someone who is deployed.
Send a Military Kid to Camp
Operation Purple Camps are summer camps just for military kids. The kids are selected based on deployments. For example a kid whose parent is deployed during the summer gets top priority, followed then by kids that have recently gone through deployment. These camps are a great way for military kids to connect with other children going through the same things they are. These camps teach military kids skills to deal with the unique things they face. By donating money to Operation Purple you can make a huge impact on the life of a military child.
